中国国际摄影艺术展览是中国摄影家协会主办的，中国举办时间最久、规模最大、吸引国际和国内摄影家参与最多的，具有广泛国际影响的重要赛事和展览。自1981年经中国文化部批准设立，每两年举办一届，至今已成功举办了14届。
本届国际影展征稿从2013初至7月31日截止。期间共收到来自98个国家和地区的17189名摄影人投送的作品共计76398件（150559幅），比上一届来稿新增人数9891名、作品3720件。其中，阿富汗、不丹、吉尔吉斯斯坦都是首次投稿参加国际影展。
国际另一大享有盛誉的摄影比赛“奥赛”，近几年也随着时代的变化而改变着，增加的组别与本届国际影展设立的主题“女性＂主旨相类似，以关注生活本源为内容，更加重了艺术地表达人文方面题材的倾向。
本届国际影展同样与时俱进，新增设“女性”主题类，金牌奖共两名，将获奖金5万元人民币（税后）。征集真实、全面、客观反映全球女性生存现状和存在问题等方面的纪实类作品，以期通过摄影唤起全球大众、政府和媒体对女性问题的关注。这也是本届国际影展首次设立主题性征稿，并强调突出纪实摄影在国际影展中的位置。这一类别引起了摄影人的关注，共有6756人投送了16564件作品。
此外，本届国际影展纪录类作品来稿共计31137件，艺术类26520件，商业类2177件。
与往届不同的是，本届国际影展首次设立奖金、CPA奖牌（即中国摄影家协会奖牌），其中，“女性”主题类和非主题类的纪录类的获奖作品将授CPA奖牌。另外，为鼓励策展人、图片编辑等专业人士推荐优秀摄影作品参展，本届国际影展还增设了推荐人奖，推荐作品获金牌奖的推荐人将获得奖金1万元人民币（税后)，并颁发“优秀推荐人”证书。
据悉，中国第15届国际影展首次举办的大师班也将同期举办。
